Obliged to do wrong

I just heard that Pope Benedict tried to excuse his past by telling Israelis that as a teenager in Germany he'd be "obliged" to join the Hitler Youth.

Just as young Israelis are obliged to join the IDF and obliged to serve in the Occupied Territories, I suppose...although some of them don't.

Since when does a holy man feel "obliged" to do wrong?

Some excuse. Some holy man. Some excuse for a holy man.
